Card How-to, Cardmaking

Holiday Card Series Day 11: Santa’s Coming to Town

Hello crafty friend. It is day eleven of the 12 Day of Christmas in November and today I’m sharing a modern and masculine card. I’ve noticed that many people struggle with masculine cards. Most of the stamps I’ve come across, tend to have a feminine feel to them . As a result, I tend to fall back on colors and shapes to make a card feel more masculine, rather than stamps.

In today’s card, I created an ink blended background with gridded washi tape. This is an easy way to create a stenciled look, without actually having a stencil. I used red, gold and black as my color pallet. I usually stay away from black for the holidays, but sometimes it give either a very elegant feel or a bold masculine one.

I went ahead and layered my inked pattern with some foil and heat embossed striped, this created a faux plaid look with shine and texture. The black offered a strong contrast and, in my humble opinion, gave it masculine feel. I used a tiny Santa to soften the harsh lines and give the card a lighter, festive touch. Lastly, I added some black gems for additional sparkle and interst, keeping with the strong color pallet.
